Why is Interaction more powerful than computation?
Nature, is a swarm and does not compute. Its intelligence, emerges out of the all the interactions that happen in it. Why is Interaction more powerful than computation?
A bee swarm is colony of bees working together.
It is not a algorithm, but a colony of independent agents (the bee) that communicate by giving and taking (Interact). Agents in swarm, that is part of an interaction, is not fixed but they change. To know the current configuration of swarm, we have to understand, both the current state of the swarm nodes and its relationships.
Unlike present day systems, with fixed data and programs, a swarm is dynamic.
Moving supply chain from its current linear configuration to network configuration would be a practical example to illustrate this. A supply chain is a chain of inventory locations a.k.a Distribution Center’s (DC).
DC's are buffers on the products journey to customer. Inventory node(s) in the supply swarm, optimizes inventory for a product in a location. A end to end optimized product flow behavior emerges from Supply Swarm due to these optimized inventory node interactions.
Individual Swarm components (nodes) is not fixed, rather it adapts when nodes in a swarm interact. This behavior of node changes is observed as Emergent behaviour.
Wicked problems like supply chains, are better solved by mimicking nature. Modelling interactions in a swarm is more powerful than algorithms.
